Dignity & Joy | Season 3, Episode 1: Seeds of solidarity with Vivien Sansour
Seeds of Solidarity: On connection, resistance and preserving Palestinian foodways 🍉
We're so grateful to have had the opportunity to sit down with Vivien Sansour for the latest episode of our podcast, Dignity and Joy 💚
This conversation between our host Sheldomar and guest Vivien - an artist, storyteller, researcher and conservationist - will break listeners’ hearts and put them back together again.
In the face of the ongoing violence and occupation in her home country, Vivien, founder of the Palestine Heirloom Seed Library, generously takes the time to share the lessons she has learned through her fight to retain and sustain her cultural food heritage.
As Vivien and Sheldomar discuss the ways our climate, and society (for better or worse), continue to change, Vivien stresses the importance of taking action now; not waiting to create the change we wish to see.
Inspiring us with an Arabic saying “البطن بستان” or “albatn bustan” meaning “the belly is a garden”, she reminds us that we are all connected and that our own existence need not negate the existence of another.

it's unfortunate that despite all the good work FoodShare does its way more concerned with its reputation than the dignity of their staff, volunteers and interns. Foodshare has a tendency to hire at-risk youth, Aboriginal people and immigrants because they know that they'll work for peanuts out of desperation and they end up doing most of their dirty work and when their done with them they just let them go without giving them anything to look forward to. Their mission statement is commendable but they do very little to subscribe to it. like their "we hire all people from all cultural and racial backgrounds" wish wash.
